MORRISVILLE, Pa. – Is it possible to live the life you want to live and be who you want to be? How well do you know yourself, your most significant “other?”

Yanni Maniates answers a resounding “yes!” to the first question, while providing ways for you to answer the second, in his debut book, “Magical Keys to Self-Mastery: Creating Miracles in Your Life.” Written in a bright, accessible style, the book gives you easy-to-apply proven tips to get to know yourself from the “inside out,” such as simple meditation techniques and methods to become a better listener.

“For me, the whole purpose of meditating or connecting with your intuition is to come to know your most significant other: "you,” says Maniates, who’s been teaching mediation, intuitive development, healing, and spirituality for more than 20 years. “This book helps you connect with the soul essence of who you are, so you can truly live your life to the fullest.”

Indeed, Maniates himself began that inward journey more than 40 years ago, when he first turned to meditation as a teenager. The only child of Greek immigrants, Maniates was born into what he calls a “very loud, significantly dysfunctional family.” To escape the din, Maniates turned inward.

“I knew I didn’t have a lot of years to go if I kept that level of stress going,” he recalls with a soft chuckle. “Given that it was the 1960s, I was able to bump into all kinds of guru-types, all of which gave me an opportunity to learn how to meditate. The meditation helped me to calm down; then I realized that what I thought was a curse was a gift, and I began to work with it. And later I began to teach others about it.”

Maniates has been teaching meditation and other skills for two decades, having left the corporate world of book publishing to pursue his passions. Through his courses, website, blogs, and podcasts, he helps people discover themselves so they can live to their fullest potential.

Now, he hopes “Magical Keys to Self-Mastery” will help more people do just that. The 173-page paperback includes seven chapters, such as “Peace of Mind is a Thought Away,” and “Life is a Trip, but Where are you Going,” which encourages the reader to slow down and relish small moments:

Too often, our experience of life is like a series of breathless, unconscious, one-after-the-other chase scenes in a fast-paced movie. Rather, I believe life is meant to be a series of vibrant still shots or landscapes, to savor and enter into with just a sprinkling of the right amount of madcap scenarios to add some spice. (p. 54)

The book is also sprinkled throughout with inspiring quotations from a variety of traditions ranging from St. Augustine to Zen proverbs. It concludes with a bonus “booklet,” an appendix of meditation exercises to help the reader practice the “keys” to self-mastery.

Maniates, who is currently co-writing a second book, has also published articles, book reviews, a number of certification programs, and audio products for meditation and hypnotherapy. He’s also a contributor along with Zig Ziglar and Brian Tracy to “101 Great Ways to Improve Your Life.”

Some “Keys” to Self-Mastery:

·        Use your breath as an ongoing frame of reference or “ground” for your being

·        Focus on creating quality and not just quantity in your life

·        Take the time every day to just sit and be with your “self,” your most significant other

·        Quiet your mind and open your heart and “listen” to the “small, still voice within”

·        When your mind is too active, stop and listen to all that incessant “stuff” going on so that you can get a handle on what you are worrying and fearing about.  And then by just slowing down enough to listen to it all, you can let go of all the tension.
